This week we talk to Nadean Brennan, director of Photography By Nadean
Describe your typical day...No day is ever the same; however starting with coffee is a must! I could be in the studio processing, out on location shooting or meeting with clients; that’s the great thing about my industry – I always have new people and places to work with.
When was the last time you felt inspired? I get inspired by every wedding I shoot – no wedding is the same. Away from weddings, I recently went to a Business Chicks Breakfast with Olivia Newton-John as the guest speaker. The biggest thing I took away was that she doesn’t believe in regrets, but rather she sees them as life lessons. This really struck a chord with me as a small business owner, because when you find yourself on struggle street, it’s difficult not to take it personally. Though in reality every person and business makes mistakes – what’s important is that you learn from them. If you don’t experience the lows, how are you meant to recognise and value the highs?
What’s next on your Bucket List and why? I’m getting married in August in Ireland so that’s a pretty big milestone to get over at the moment. Who knew planning a wedding could be so stressful. At least I am now really getting to understand my client base.
Tell us something about you that may surprise people? I studied a Bachelor of Commerce and qualified with KPMG as a Chartered Accountant in 2005. I worked all over the world before I realised where my passion lay. I believe everything happens for a reason and without my accounting background I would never be where I am with my photography business. It gave me the grounding to be a successful business woman, by keeping a focus on the bottom line profit and most importantly cash flow that will keep my dreams alive.
What’s your top tip for success? Never be afraid to ask for advice. I am continually inspired and a better business woman due to the people around me. Others that have been there before you are invaluable to your success. It’s important to always return the favour whenever you can, and the relationships you form are priceless.
What would you like to get from your Business Chicks experience? I would like to learn from other fabulous women to make both my business and myself a better person.
